Instructor/Speaker

Timothy Hering

“No matter how much or how little time you have in your busy schedule, if you just do one thing every day to work on or to promote your business, even if it’s only for five minutes, you will be on track to building and/or maintaining a successful business.” So says Personal Chef Tim Hering, owner of Dinner Magician Personal Chef Service as well as the Marketing Director for Soap Alchemy, Natural, Hand Crafted Soap Co., based near Pittsburgh, PA.

Having worked in food service for the better part of 27 years both as a chef and a general manager Tim extensively researched starting his own personal chef business. He attended the CBA undergraduate course in Atlanta, and finally took the leap in 2008 and Dinner Magician LLC was born.

That same year Tim spent many hours building the Soap Alchemy brand including sourcing sustainable materials for packaging, logo design, company logo, website, and collateral. Soap Alchemy Soaps are available for purchase online, in catalogs, and through several hundred retail outlets throughout the United States, the Virgin Islands, Bermuda and over to Europe in Poland.

Chef Tim is one of the founding members of the Western Pennsylvania Chapter of the USPCA as well as its current president, the idea of which began while attending CBA after meeting and speaking with USPCA National President Chef Gail Kenagy. “Sometimes I think I must have gone a bit crazy at some point by starting not just one but two businesses in the same year as well as getting the West PA Chefs chapter started,” he said. “It was well worth it and the time and energy everyone in our chapter puts out in promoting not only our own businesses but the chapter itself and the USPCA in general have given everyone a boost in our businesses. I wouldn’t have it any other way!”

In addition to his marketing duties at Soap Alchemy, his personal chef business and his duties as West PA Chefs chapter President, he’s written several articles for Personal Chef Magazine and maintains the West PA Chefs website and blog as well as his own. He also periodically teaches the Little Chef’s Family Cooking Class at the local YMCA as well as other classes at a local kitchen shop. If there is any spare time, he also enjoys rock climbing, yoga, camping, reading and spending time with Jordan on their farm out in the country.
