Instructor/Speaker

Lisa Givens

Chef Lisa Givens was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, where she explored her passion for cooking at an early age. She watched her parents who were both great cooks as she grew up. Although Chef Lisa didn’t originally follow her passion for cooking, she did pursue training and knowledge in the culinary industry, catered small parties, and hosted dinner parties while working in the telecommunications industry for 23 plus years.

Lisa pursued training in culinary techniques at the Culinary School of the Rockies in Boulder, CO, specialized classes at the Seasoned Chef in Denver, and catering training. At the same time that Chef Lisa was beginning her Personal Chef Training, she entered a contest for Top Home Chef in Denver as a part of the Annual Share Our Strengths Benefit. She competed in both a semi-final and final round held at the Colorado Convention Center and was crowned the Top Home Chef in Denver and won five thousand dollars in Jenn-Air appliances.

In 2005, Chef Lisa pursued and completed Personal Chef training through the Culinary Business Academy and Cook Street Culinary School in Denver. Chef Lisa is a premier member of the United States Personal Chef Association (USPCA) and the president of the local Rocky Mountain Chapter of the USPCA. Chef Lisa loves to watch cooking shows and add new recipes to her repertoire through cooking magazines, cookbooks and cooking classes.

Chef Lisa has operated A Gourmet A-way since 2005 and in June of 2010 is re-launching her business as Gourmet Away as a result of winning a business makeover through the company BizHaven. She creates specialized menus to meet her clients’ dietary needs and shares some of her own special New Orleans style cuisine. Chef Lisa also owns Goodies by Lisa and sells New Orleans Style Pralines, Rum Cakes and Sweet Potato Pecan Pies through her website.

Chef Lisa is committed to delivering a experience to her clients, which is "more than great food".
