Expanded Business Plans and Marketing 501After years in business successfully there are new ways to look at marketing
Overview of class:
This class is for chefs who have been in business for some time. They are comfortable in their own skin and with their business and for some reason are giving thought to new marketing ideas. Maybe it is the economic downturn, loss of clients, or simply the wish to do better, more, or different.
With old business plans in hand the class will investigate branding for small businesses, your outward-facing collateral (including website, blogging, and presentation materials), and existing marketing plans. Group exercises will allow participants to develop and evaluate strategies and options for the future.
What you will take away from this class:
• Understanding of branding and a decision tree to help you decide what, if any, steps you’d like to implement
• When is the right time to change your game plan and try something new
• Thorough understanding of your core business and how to move outside of your comfort zone to identify additional target markets
• Specific steps for your business ready for implementation
Target Audience: ExpansionExpansion = expansion mode – has solid core business, looking to break out of standard PCS mode, senior chef

Jan Cooper-Webb
Jan is Chef-Owner of Guelph-based Orchard House Gourmet Personal Chef Service & Catering. A passion for cooking led her to culinary college where working with a real chef in a professional kitchen soon overshadowed watching TV cooking shows.
Chef Jan is keen on creating new recipes and traveling in pursuit of culinary experiences, travels that have taken her across the States, Canada, UK and Singapore. Visiting a different city each year for the USPCA conference also gives her an excuse to browse culinary shops in search of unique gadgets, foods and books to bring home (and she learned the first year to bring an extra suitcase for all her purchases!)
In 2008 she became a chef instructor at Liaison College specializing in teaching the business and culinary skills required to become a Personal Chef. When the economic crisis hit in winter of 2009 she was faced with the same decision many other Personal Chefs had, to try and weather the bad phase or close up shop. After many sleepless nights she decided to make 2009 the year that Orchard House Gourmet became well known in the community. Significant changes to her marketing and advertising strategies paid off! Personal Chef clients began to grow as did the catering part of her business. Fall of 2009 Orchard House Gourmet won the Platinum Readers Choice Award for Catering Services.
